The Kia EV3 is one of the newest small electric SUVs on Irish roads, and it arrived with a strong reputation: it was named 2025 World Car of the Year and it offers up to 605 km of official range in its long range form. Kia Ireland put the car on sale in November 2024, so the first used examples are now reaching the market. This Kia EV3 Ireland buyer guide explains the versions sold here, the two battery sizes, real charging times, safety, warranty and exactly what to check before you buy a used one.

Quick Summary

  • Kia Ireland announced EV3 prices on 7 October 2024, from €36,790 (Earth 2, 58.3 kWh) up to €47,190 (GT-Line), with prices quoted including VAT and EV grants.
  • Two batteries are offered: 58.3 kWh with an official range of 436 km, and 81.4 kWh with up to 605 km, according to Kia Ireland.
  • Kia Ireland quotes a 10 to 80% DC charge in 29 minutes. An Irish long-term test of the GT-Line measured 31 minutes and a peak of 128 kW.
  • Euro NCAP awarded the EV3 five stars in 2025, and the car won the 2025 World Car of the Year title.
  • Kia's 7-year or 150,000 km warranty covers the high-voltage battery and transfers to the next owner, so a used EV3 still has years of cover left.

What is the Kia EV3?

The EV3 is a compact, fully electric SUV that sits below the EV6 and EV9 in Kia's line-up. It has a boxy, upright shape that gives a high seating position and a practical cabin for its size. It is front-wheel drive with a single electric motor, and every version sold in Ireland has the same 150 kW (204hp) motor. The choice comes down to battery size and trim level.

The EV3 was revealed in 2024 and arrived in Irish showrooms in November that year. On 16 April 2025 it was named World Car of the Year at the World Car Awards in New York, voted by a jury of 96 motoring journalists from 30 countries. Kia Ireland says the win was Kia's sixth World Car Awards title since 2020.

Kia EV3 prices and versions in Ireland

Kia Ireland announced the EV3 range and pricing on 7 October 2024. These were the launch prices, which Kia Ireland quoted including VAT and EV grants. New car prices have moved since, and used prices depend on age, mileage and condition, so use these as a guide to what each version cost new.

VersionBatteryOfficial rangeLaunch price
Earth 2 Standard Range58.3 kWh436 km€36,790
Earth 2 Long Range81.4 kWhup to 605 km€40,350
Earth 381.4 kWhup to 605 km€42,840
GT-Line81.4 kWh563 km (tested car)€47,190

Range figures for the Earth versions are Kia Ireland's quoted figures. The GT-Line range of 563 km is the official figure quoted in CompleteCar.ie's long-term test of a GT-Line Long Range, which runs on bigger wheels.

Standard equipment by trim

  • Earth 2: 17-inch alloy wheels, two 12.3-inch screens, LED headlights, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
  • Earth 3: adds 19-inch alloy wheels, vegan leather seats, power-adjustable front seats and blind-spot collision avoidance assist.
  • GT-Line: adds GT-Line styling, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) so you can power appliances from the car, a power sunroof and a smart power tailgate.

When you compare used cars, check which trim and battery a car really has. The 58.3 kWh car is only offered as an Earth 2, so an Earth 3 or GT-Line will always have the bigger battery.

Range, efficiency and charging

The big decision with any used EV3 is the battery. The 58.3 kWh Standard Range car is quoted at 436 km and suits drivers who mostly do commuting and local trips. The 81.4 kWh Long Range car, quoted at up to 605 km, makes more sense if you regularly drive between cities or live in a rural area far from fast chargers.

Real-world range is always lower than the official figure, especially in winter. CompleteCar.ie ran a GT-Line Long Range through the coldest weeks of winter and recorded 22.7 kWh/100km, against an official 16.2 kWh/100km. That is typical of any EV in cold weather and is worth keeping in mind if you are comparing range claims.

Charging times

  • DC fast charging: Kia Ireland quotes 10 to 80% in 29 minutes. In the CompleteCar.ie test the GT-Line hit a peak of 128 kW and charged from 10 to 80% in 31 minutes, matching the quoted performance.
  • AC charging: the EV3 accepts up to 11 kW on AC. On a domestic charger, a 10 to 100% charge of the 81.4 kWh battery took 7 hours 15 minutes in the same test, so an overnight charge at home is enough for most owners.

Space, practicality and technology

For a compact SUV, the EV3 is practical. CompleteCar.ie measured the boot at 470 litres with all seats in use and 1,230 litres with the rear seats folded, and there is a 25-litre storage space under the bonnet for charging cables. The cabin uses a wide dashboard panel that combines the driver's display and the central touchscreen, and the GT-Line adds V2L, which can power a laptop, an e-bike charger or camping equipment from the car.

The CompleteCar.ie reviewers praised the comfortable ride, low road noise, light steering and solid build quality, with no squeaks or rattles during their extended test. The main downsides they noted were higher winter consumption than the official figure and a fairly wide body that can make tight parking spaces awkward.

Performance

The 150 kW (204hp) motor produces 283 Nm of torque. CompleteCar.ie quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds for the GT-Line Long Range, which is more than enough for Irish motorways and overtaking on national roads.

Kia EV3 safety rating

Euro NCAP tested the EV3 in 2025 and awarded five stars. The scores were 83% for adult occupants, 84% for child occupants, 77% for vulnerable road users and 67% for safety assist. The car Euro NCAP tested was a 58.3 kWh version.

Recalls and known problems

The EV3 is still a young car, so there is very little long-term reliability history. We checked the Road Safety Authority's published recall lists for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026: none of them includes an EV3 recall. Kia Ireland's 2026 recalls covered other models, such as the older Niro EV and the PV5 van, not the EV3.

That does not guarantee a car has no open action. Ask a Kia dealer to check the VIN, and make sure any software updates offered by Kia have been carried out at a dealer. If you are comparing it with an older Kia EV, read our Kia Niro buyer guide, which covers the Niro EV battery recall.

Warranty: why a used EV3 is a safer bet

Kia Ireland's warranty runs for 7 years or 150,000 km, whichever comes first, and it covers every model. For electrified cars, including fully electric models like the EV3, the high-voltage battery is covered for the same 7 years or 150,000 km from first registration.

Kia says the warranty is fully transferable: the remaining time and kilometres pass to the next owner with no forms required, and it recommends that new owners register with MyKia. Servicing does not have to be done at a Kia dealer, but it must follow the owner's manual and use genuine or equivalent-quality parts, and a claim can be declined if a fault is caused by incorrect maintenance. So ask for service records with clear dates, invoices and part details.

Buying a used Kia EV3 in Ireland: what to check

  • Battery size and trim: confirm whether the car has the 58.3 kWh or 81.4 kWh battery. The vehicle registration certificate (VRC), the original sales invoice or a Kia dealer can confirm the specification.
  • Battery health: ask for a battery state-of-health report from a Kia dealer and check the range shown at 100% charge against the official figure for that version.
  • Charging test: make sure the car charges on both AC and DC, and that the charging cable is included.
  • Warranty start date: check the first registration date so you know how much of the 7-year warranty remains.
  • Service history: even EVs need scheduled servicing for brakes, coolant, cabin filters and inspections. Look for dated, stamped records.
  • Software and recalls: ask a Kia dealer to check the VIN for open campaigns and updates.
  • Tyres and wheels: EVs are heavy and can wear tyres faster. Check tread depth and look for kerbed 19-inch wheels on Earth 3 and GT-Line cars.
  • Imports: if the car came from the UK, confirm VRT has been paid and check its history before you buy.
